Guyanese named to Super Lawyers List 2010
Clarence Barry-Austin, sixth year named to Super Lawyers
MINNEAPOLIS - March 30, 2010: Clarence Barry-Austin has been named by New Jersey Super Lawyers as one of the top attorneys in the state for 2010. Each year, no more than 5 percent of the lawyers in the state receive this honor. The selections for this esteemed list are made by the research team at Super Lawyers, which is a service of the Thomson Reuters, Legal division based in Eagan, Minn. Each year, the research team at Super Lawyers undertakes a rigorous multi-phase selection process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, independent evaluation of candidates by the attorney-led research staff, a peer review of candidates by practice area and a good-standing and disciplinary check.A trial lawyer with more than 30 years of courtroom experience, Barry-Austin has tried more than 200 jury cases to conclusion.
His areas of expertise include personal injury matters of all kinds--auto accidents, slip/trip and fall cases, medical malpractice, products liability, police brutality and other civil rights violations. He has handled these cases both on behalf of plaintiffs and defendants, as well as insurance companies such as Allstate and Palisades, and New Jersey public entities such as the State of New Jersey, County of Essex, New Jersey; City of Orange, New Jersey; City of East Orange, New Jersey; and the City of Irvington, New Jersey.
Barry-Austin has been granted the designation of "Certified Civil Trial Attorney" by the New Jersey Supreme Court. That designation has been provided to less than 5% of the attorneys admitted to practice in New Jersey. He has also been awarded the highest rating (AV) by Martindale Hubbell, the nation's premier legal rating publication. In addition, he has taught litigation practice at Seton Hall Law School and Montclair State University.
He is also a Qualified Mediator pursuant to New Jersey Court Rules.Barry-Austin is also active in the New Jersey legal community. He is a member and past President of the Garden State Bar Association, the oldest and largest African-American bar association in New Jersey. He is also a member of the New Jersey State Bar Association, the Essex County Bar Association, the New Jersey Association for Justice and the New Jersey Defense Association.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Barry-Austin is active in Guyanese and Caribbean affairs in the New Jersey/New York area. He is a member of the Caribbean Bar Association and is Legal Counsel to the Caribbean American Business Association, a New Jersey organization of Caribbean professionals and business persons.
On the occasion of the 43rd Anniversary of the independence of the nation of Guyana, he was presented with a Proclamation from the City of New York in conjunction with the Guyana Tri-State Alliance, a community based organization... recognizing his accomplishments as a trial attorney, and his contributions to the Guyanese community.
